The company that makes the DJI Xtra camera is suspending and recalling all pre-orders

After the sale undisguised color of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 that was popular in the United States last year, Xtra Technology he looked ready to sneak away its version of the dual lens Osmo Pocket 4 Pro, too. But today, Xtra has suddenly pulled the new Xtra Muse 2 Pro from its homepage, is pausing pre-orders indefinitely, and has said it will refund all of the $20 it previously collected.

A few days after showing the camera at the opening ceremony in Los Angelesthe company is also not committed to restarting: “XTRA has not made a final announcement about the availability of future products. We have not announced the timing of the launch of new products at this time. Information will be shared separately when the appropriate schedule is confirmed, ” it writes.

Xtra said the move is because “we cannot confirm a reliable launch date at this time,” but there may be another reason behind it. Without FCC approval, Xtra cannot legally import, sell, or sell radio equipment in the US.

To be clear, the US government has not approved its drone ban. We haven’t seen it share public evidence that China’s drones pose a national security threat, and it hasn’t explained why pocket cameras would work to stop drones.

But before the ban, it seems that what DJI did was to flood the market with new models that sell its technology. Xtra already sells five models of DJI cameras, while the Skyrover is the most popular of many new drone products for sale DJI technology. Skyrover also made it into Best Buynot to mention Amazon.

On July 10, the FCC fixed it fine of $25,000 against Xtra and each of Skyrover’s suppliers for failing to answer questions about where, exactly, their technology comes from. On July 17th, the FCC decided to take action ban retroactively those companies from continuing to sell existing products, too.

It is unclear whether the Xtra product was actually rejected by the FCC. Technically, the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro was to be accepted by the FCC before the drone ban came down last December, and the Xtra model was also approved on June 17. But the FCC documents no longer appear in the FCC regulations – we have them alone because the bots beat them before mysteriously disappearing. The FCC did not respond to our request for comment.

However, it is unlikely that Xtra will be able to “drop” its Muse 2 Pro reservation. It is still selling some of its cameras for now.

If you pre-ordered Muse 2 Pro, the company’s FAQ page explains that you will receive a “10% one-time discount as an apology for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the Early Bird program,” which you must use within 30 days, only at the Xtra online store.

The company says it will automatically refund the money, within 5 to 10 business days, to your payment method.
