The Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum have been adapted into handhelds

Blaze Entertainment, the company behind the cartridge-based Evercade consoleshe is announced two new smartphones which reimagines the personal computer of the ’80s as a portable gaming machine. The Spectrum Handheld and The C64 Handheld focus on the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum’s gaming focus, each handheld comes with 25 retro titles that can be expanded using a MicroSD card. If you desire computer games, they can all be connected to the keyboard and USB joystick.

Shipping isn’t expected to begin until October 2026 at the earliest, but you can activate The C64 and The Spectrum via Funstock starting at $129.99 each. It’s a little on the cheap side given even the cheapest Anbernic device, and $48 RG28XXcan easily emulate the game, but what’s really interesting here is the design of the handhelds, all with colors and cakes inspired by their original ’80s-era counterparts.

Both handsets include a 4.3-inch screen with a generous 800×480 resolution, D-pads, action buttons, and extra buttons, stereo speakers, a headphone jack, and a three-hour battery that can be recharged via USB-C. Bundled games from the Commodore 64 include titles like Boulder Dash, Aztec Challengeand Sillywhile from the ZX Spectrum you get Manic Miner, Switchbladeand An earthquakeamong others.
