The collapse of the initial agreement between Mourinho and “Real”… and Perez is forced to remain silent.

A Portuguese press release revealed new complications affecting Jose Mourinho’s move to Real Madrid after an initial deal between the two sides collapsed amid a sensitive electoral climate at the Spanish club.

According to Portuguese newspaper Apola, Mourinho’s initial agreement to move to Real Madrid for 7 million euros is no longer valid after the legal clause that allowed the deal to be completed within a specific time frame of just ten working days has expired.

The newspaper explains that Benfica have refused to waive the full value of the Portuguese coach’s contract, which is €15m for the 2026-2027 season, prompting Florentino Perez to reassess the situation after he initially refused to pay the figure.

Despite the tension in the negotiations in recent days, prominent businessman Jorge Mendes managed to reopen the lines of communication between all parties and reach what the newspaper described as a temporary “peace agreement” that allows everyone to manage the crisis calmly.

This means that Mourinho has become relatively confident about the possibility of signing a 3-year contract with Real Madrid, but on the main condition that Florentino Perez wins the upcoming elections against his rival Enrique Riquelme.

In return, Benfica will have complete freedom to move towards hiring a new manager, with Marco Silva’s name standing out as a top priority to succeed Mourinho in the next technical draft.

The report confirms that Perez is forced to refrain from making any public statements regarding Mourinho at this time due to the sensitivity of the electoral situation at Real Madrid, in addition to ethical considerations related to the current administration’s inability to sign formal long-term deals before the election is decided.

Abula also noted that the relationship between Mourinho and Benfica has reached a stage where it is difficult to restore it, despite the continuation of the existing contract and the existence of previous attempts to renew it.
