The Great Orme is a limestone outcrop on the north coast of Wales, rising to 207 meters (679 ft) above sea level.
It features cliffs that drop straight into the Irish Sea.
It is a tourist attraction, with a Victorian tramway, cableway, footpaths and a mining museum.
Llandudno Marine Drive, the site of the accident, is a five-mile toll road that circles the base of the Great Orme.
Although primarily a tourist route, it is famous for hosting competitive speed trials during major motorsport events such as the Cambrian Rally and Touring Britain Rally.
