The Cairngorms wildfire has been burning for a third day at a distance of nearly four miles

Parts of Scotland are at very high risk of wildfires over the next few days.

SFRS has issued bushfire warnings for the Central Highlands, South and East of Scotland in conjunction with the Scottish Wildfire Forum.

The alert, which warns of a high risk of wildfires, went into effect on Wednesday and will remain in place until Monday.

It follows hot and dry weather in many parts of the country.

SFRS wildfire tactical adviser Kevin Dingwall urged the public to take simple steps to prevent fires from starting.

“Hot and dry conditions will increase the risk of bushfires across Scotland. Even if there is no warning where you live, we are asking everyone to take care.

“Wildfires can destroy property, landscapes and wildlife. That’s why it’s so important for everyone to take extra precautions in these situations.”

Earlier this week, the Met Office released a report on the UK’s climate, stating that what was once considered extreme weather is becoming “the new normal”.

The country’s climate is on the move as northern parts of Britain are currently experiencing warmer weather than has ever been seen in southern England, scientists say.
