Did you know that the average new car in the US grew inches (25 mm) and 22 inches (558 mm) in length between 2013 and 2023? This is probably obvious to anyone who travels abroad these days, and it’s a culture we need to change. Bigger cars may make their occupants safer, but they always need more power to get where they’re going. And it is f=in being the case, large vehicles leave lasting and destructive effects on anything that does not have a chance for the other party to collide. This makes today’s story even more painful, because the Volvo EX30 could be the best medicine.
It is a compact and practical electronic device a small fraction of carbon but there is no compromise on safety, and it would be perfect for now, except for that Volvo soon decided to stop importing the car to the US. With the order books closed, the more than 1,200 cars left are gone.
After teasing us for a while, Volvo finally revealed the real EX30 in 2023. the subject of the story was the price: $34,950 for the rear-wheel drive model before any tax credit. That would make it one of the cheapest EVs sold in the US, but with a Volvo badge attached. This was before geopolitics.

Its lower cost is predicted to make it cheaper to manufacture in Zhangjiakou, China. However, higher tariffs on Chinese-made cars were imposed by the Biden administration in 2024and then the Trump administration the following yearwhich led Volvo to delay exports as it moved production of cars destined for the US to its factory in Ghent, Belgium.
However, the European-made cars still had a 25% premium, which raised the base price of the EX30 to $40,345 (plus destination charge) for the rear-wheel drive, or $46,345 for the all-wheel-drive twin models.
