A French court has opened the door for far-right leader Marine Le Pen to run in the 2027 presidential election but said she must wear an electronic badge.

An appeals court in Paris on Tuesday found Le Pen guilty of misusing public funds but reduced her ban from holding elected office to 45 months, of which 30 were suspended. Another 15 months are expected to be changed from the lower court’s original decision in March last year.

A lower court last year sentenced Le Pen, 57, to five years in public office and two years in prison for fraud in public services in the European Parliament.
