The Ukrainian airstrikes have forced Russia to freeze its naval fleet in the Sea of Azov less than a week later – showing yet again how a country without naval power can block maritime corridors.
The Ukrainian military’s Unmanned Systems have flown one-way drones to target and hit more than 100 Russian tankers and other vessels every night between July 6 and July 13, along with posting video evidence showing such beatings. The campaign has forced Russia to shut down the shipping line that runs from Russia’s Don River to the Sea of Azov, and to stop all shipping through the Kerch Strait from the Sea of Azov to the Black Sea. Reuters reports.
The closure of such sea routes has also isolated the Crimean peninsula which is part of the Russian state by restricting mainly the shipping of oil by sea.
