Thai media reported that at least 27 people died in a fire in a bar in Bangkok

At least 27 people have died in a massive fire at a Bangkok bar, Thai media reported.

Firefighters were called to the scene just after midnight and found customers fleeing through the front door engulfed in flames.

Unconfirmed footage shows a woman falling to the ground before getting to her feet to escape as flames erupt from the bar.

Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul told reporters at the scene that 27 people had died and many had been taken to hospital, local media reported. He explained that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The bar is located in the Chatuchak district and is a popular local entertainment venue and restaurant, a Thai outlet Daily News reported, External.

Firefighters were able to control the fire in half an hour.

Pictures taken after the fire showed the bar completely gutted and blackened, with the roof ripped off.
