Texas sues Netflix for ‘bait and switch’ advertising and spying

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Netflixaccuses the company of “targeting Texans, including children, and collecting user data without their knowledge or consent.” The lawsuit, which was filed on Monday, also alleges that Netflix designed its platform to be addictive, with content that “distracts” users.

“Netflix has created a surveillance program designed to illegally collect and profit from the information of Texans without their consent, and my office will do everything we can to stop it,” Paxton said. “Netflix is not the ad-free, kid-friendly platform it claims to be. Instead, it has misled consumers while using their private data to make billions.”

Paxton is accusing Netflix of violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and is asking the court to stop the “unlawful collection and disclosure” of users, as well as ban the private viewing of children’s profiles.
