Test matches, Champions Trophy, Ashes series – when is the next big event in women’s cricket? | cricket news

After Australia’s seven-wicket victory over England in the T20 World Cup final at Lord’s, here’s what’s coming up in women’s cricket…

First Women’s Test at Lord’s (July 10-13)

History will be made at the ‘Home of Cricket’ from Friday as England – five days after their T20 loss on Australian soil – entertain India in the first women’s Test at Lord’s.

Let’s hope for a better pitch than the men’s Test between England and New Zealand last month, when the batting was tough and the spin bowling a complete non-factor.

It’s a historic Test match for us as a team and for the Indian team, and we can’t wait to play in front of a lot of people over four days.

England head coach Charlotte Edwards

11 of the previous 15 women’s Tests between England and India have been drawn, with India recording three wins and England just one way back in 1995.

The Hundred (July 21-August 16)

A host of the best players in the women’s game will be in action during the sixth edition of The Hundred, which you can watch live and in full Sky Sports.

Sunrisers Leeds – known as Northern Superchargers before being taken over by Indian media company Sun Group – are the defending champions after defeating Southern Braves in the 2025 final at Lord’s.

Phoebe Lichfield and Annabel Sutherland – two key players in Australia’s recent World Twenty20 triumph – are in the Sunrisers playing squad, as is England all-rounder Dani Gibson after the franchise shelled out £190,000 for him at auction.

England’s Dani Gibson and Tillie Curtin-Coleman were bought for staggering fees at the Hundred auction.

England captain Nat Syver-Brant will play for Trent Rockets but his predecessor as captain Heather Knight is serving with London Spirit this year and will instead be general manager of the Lord’s-based club.

Women’s Champions Trophy (February 14-28, 2027)

The inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy will be held in Sri Lanka in early 2027. Unlike the established men’s edition, which is a 50-over event, it will use the T20 format.

Hosts Sri Lanka join the top five teams in the T20I rankings after the 2026 T20 World Cup – Australia, England, South Africa, India and New Zealand.

Teams will play once each in a round-robin format during a short, intense tournament, with the top two teams advancing to the finals.

Australia will start as favorites as they look to add to a large trophy cabinet that includes 14 World Cups, seven in the 50-over and 20-over editions.

Women’s Ashes (July 2027)

England’s Ashes tour of Australia in early 2025 was an absolute nightmare, losing three T20Is, as many ODIs and a Test match – all matches lost 16-0 on points.

There have been improvements since head coach Charlotte Edwards took over but the World Twenty20 final shows England are to win an Ashes series for the first time since 2014, when Edwards led the way to victory away from home.

The 2027 competition will retain the same multi-format points system that has been deployed in every Women’s Ashes since 2013, with the only Test match to be played at Headingley.
