Ted Lasso: Actor Cristo Fernandez signs with US second tier club El Paso Lokomotiv FC

Ted Lasso actor Cristo Fernandez has signed for American second-tier team El Paso Locomotives after a two-month trial.

The 35-year-old Mexican, who played Dani Rojas on the hit Apple TV+ program between 2020 and 2023, will now take on a different role for the USL championship side.

Fernández played youth football in his hometown of Guadalajara, but a knee injury forced him away from the game at age 15.

After moving to London, he was cast in Ted Lasso, which won several awards during its initial three-series run.

“Soccer has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and wherever life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally has never left my heart,” said Fernandez, who earlier this year had a trial with Major League Soccer’s second team, the Chicago Fire.

“I am incredibly grateful to El Paso Lokomotiv FC – the club, the coaches, the staff and especially my teammates – for opening the door and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one.

“This journey back to professional football is about believing in yourself, taking risks and chasing your dreams no matter how unpredictable the path.

“Maybe I’m just a crazy man with crazy dreams… so being here with the ‘Locos’ actually makes perfect sense.”

“Cristo is a great addition to our roster, adding another offensive threat to our forward line,” Lokomotiv head coach Junior Gonzalez said.
