T20 World Cup, Group 2, Headingley
England 200-5 (20 overs) Dunkley 57 (37), Capsey 40 (25) Gordon 2-30
Scotland 162-7 (20 overs) S Brice 34 (24)
England won by 38 runs.
England’s fightback shone again as the hosts booked a place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
Sophia Dunkley made sure she didn’t miss out on 57 when she returned to injured captain Nat Sciver-Brunt’s side with three catches.
Alice Kapsey struck 40 and Heather Knight 25, but the most impressive was Freya Kemp and Danny Gibson’s 21-ball unbroken partnership of 61.
Together they took England from 141-5 in 17 overs to 200-5 after 20 – Kemp’s unbeaten 39 off 16 balls and Gibson’s 11-ball 30 not out.
After being chased down by Ireland in their second match, this was more reminiscent of England’s 219-1 in Sri Lanka on the opening night of the tournament.
Kemp-Gibson’s pyrotechnics pushed the target beyond Scotland and despite an impressive effort they finished on 162-7 – their second-highest total in T20 Internationals.
A win against the West Indies on Wednesday or against New Zealand next Saturday in England’s last two games could be enough.
Scotland, who are on a two-game losing streak, play New Zealand on Tuesday.
