England’s T20 World Cup hopes were dashed as Australia sealed their seventh title with a seven-wicket win at Lord’s.

Their Ashes rivals, despite having England at this point, ensured there would be no first trophy for the hosts since winning on this ground in 2017, instead emphasizing their strength.

England cruised to 150-4 – captain Sciver-Brunt needed 53 balls for 58 – before Australia put that score in a horrendous context.

After being bowled by Lauren Bell in the second Georgia volley, Phoebe Litchfield and Beth Mooney put on a 100-run partnership in just 67 balls.

Australia needed just 34 runs from 42 balls as Lichfield fell for 48.

Mooney scored a brilliant 64 to take them within 11 overs of the over before starting one more innings in the England-Australia clash.

Seven runs needed, Sophie Eccleston looked to have taken a clean catch to dismiss Ellyse Perry in the 17th over but Perry was called back by the TV umpire.

The crowd screamed and Ecclestone was angry but it had no effect. The winning runs came as the England spinner hit five wides in the next over.

The margin of victory ruled out the final of the day, in another special moment for the women’s game, which was filled by a packed crowd.

The arrangement is a positive for England as they have shown signs of improvement under coach Charlotte Edwards in this tournament, but Australia were once again a class apart in the end.
