T20 round-up: Notts squeeze home against Lancashire to stay top

Until Stone’s last over, Yorkshire were top of the group after a great run chase at Headingley.

Alex Lees hit 73 off just 35 balls with 6 sixes to take Durham to 205-9, Ben McKinney also scored 42 off 21 deliveries.

Skipper Jonny Bairstow made the perfect start in the chase to top 66 from 36, Moeen Ali hitting seven sixes in his 32-ball 60 to keep them alive.

When Moeen fell, 38 were needed off 23 balls and Matthew Revis needed Casey Aldridge down the ground for six to win the game off the last ball.

Essex moved third in the South group – behind second-placed Surrey only in net run rate – with a thoroughly dominant performance in Hove.

Michael Pepper made 47 off 29 balls before Simon Harmer smashed Henry Crocombe’s last over in the last over of the innings and Essex took the score to 204-6 at an average of 31 runs.

This knocked the wind out of Sussex as their chase never materialized and Sam Cooke picked up 4-7.

A seventh defeat of the season left Sussex fifth in the table.

There was also a shock win for Worcestershire at New Road in a cross-pool fixture as they faced Kent in a T20 for the first time.

Kent won the toss and held the home side to 142-7 with captain Adam Hoes scoring 47 off 41 balls.

But only two players managed to reach double figures in reply as Kent were bowled out in just 14.1 overs.

Kent, Essex and Surrey in the South group missed out on joining 20 points and are in fourth place, while Worcestershire in the Central and West group improved by 20 points and are now only outside the top two on net run rate, boosted by such a big win.

Glamorgan are also on 20 points in the Central and West Group, chasing 185 to beat Warwickshire in Cardiff.

Sam Hein 63 off 46 and Australian Beau Webster 32 off 47 made the Bears 184-4.

Chase were always comfortable after Will Smale’s 62 off 50 deliveries and Kieran Carlson’s 75 in the powerplay.

Asa Tribe (38 off 31) and Shaun Dickson (24 off 11) then took the hosts home with seven balls to spare.

A sixth defeat to Warwickshire left them fifth in the group on 12 points with three games remaining.
