The Polish goalkeeper prefers to stay in the Catalan club
Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny joked about the future of his compatriot and partner in the Catalan club, Robert Lewandowski, stressing that he would advise him to end his career.
Lewandowski’s future is still uncertain His contract with “Barcelona” expires at the end of the current season, and he has not yet agreed to an extension with “Blaugrana”.
Lewandowski has many offers on his table, whether from European clubs, Saudi Arabia or the American league, but he has not yet decided his fate.
When the Barcelona goalkeeper was asked if he had advised Lewandowski to move to Juventus, Szczesny joked:
Szczesny retired from football after Euro 2024, but Barcelona brought him back and signed him in October of the same year after a long-term injury to German goalkeeper Ter Stegen.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, the Polish goalkeeper has decided to see out the remaining year of his contract and has already rejected offers to leave the club, including an offer from one of the biggest teams in Spain’s league that would have guaranteed him a starting position.
At 36, the former Arsenal, Roma and Juventus goalkeeper now prioritizes the well-being of his family and Barcelona over playing time or financial gain.
“I still have the desire and I can still play,” stressed Szczesny, adding that he is valued by coach Hansi Flick and that he is fully integrated in the dressing room, where he believes he can still offer his experience to a very young team.
Leh also touched on Barcelona’s sports project and Flick’s ambitions in Europe, saying: “Flick has already won the Champions League, but not with Barcelona.” It looks like he really wants to be the coach who brings back the Champions League title to Barcelona.
As for Barcelona’s exit from the Champions League and this season’s Copa del Rey against Atletico, Szczesny lamented that “the two matches” left the team without the chance to win both titles, although he insisted that the current squad “guarantees fierce competition for many years”.
