The characteristics of the starting line-up, which will be played by the coach of the Saudi Arabian team, the Greek Georgios Donis, during the upcoming confrontation against Spain on Sunday evening in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup are beginning to be revealed.
Al-Akhdar are playing with high ambitions after picking up a valuable point against Uruguay in the first round as they look to continue their positive run and move one step closer to qualifying for the next round.
According to media reports, Donis does not intend to make major changes to the squad against Uruguay after expressing satisfaction with the team play and tactical discipline shown by the players in the last match.
Saudi Arabia’s recent training session saw Nasser Al-Dossari trialled in midfield alongside Abdullah Al-Khaibari and Muhammad Canno, showing the possibility of limited changes in this position to give the team more balance against the attacking power of the Spanish national team.
The move comes as part of the technical staff’s efforts to increase the numerical density in the central area and limit the ability of the Spanish players to impose their usual control over the flow of the game and possession.
The same sources confirmed that there will be no more than one or two changes to the starting line-up compared to the previous match, which reflects Donis’ belief in the need to maintain the harmony that the team showed against Uruguay.

The Greek coach prefers to rely on technical stability in such big confrontations, especially since the Saudi Arabian team played one of its best matches in recent years in terms of defense and organization.
Dennis is expected to make a final decision on the starting line-up during a pre-match technical meeting before the team delegation travels to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to host one of the most important matches of the Al-Akhdar World Cup.
