Josh Rourke scored from a last-ditch interception to give Wakefield victory in a topsy-turvy clash with Super League bottom side Huddersfield giants.

Ollie Russell made sure of the game with a minute to go to level the match for the visitors by kicking a drop-goal to send the game into overtime, but the scrum-half then fired a pass which Rower picked up and headed over the line to secure victory for the hosts.

Tries from Tom Johnstone and Mike McMicken led Trinity to 10-0 but the visitors hit back with tries from Jacob Gagai and Cole Geyer.

Jack Sinfield restored Trinity’s advantage before the break but Asher O’Donnell fired his way to put the giants back in front just after the restart.

A Max Jovitt penalty leveled it before Rourke headed in the corner and put Wakefield back in front, only for Adam Swift to touch down to get the away side level.

Russell landed a drop-goal to match Sinfield’s effort but it was time for more drama and heartbreak for the Giants, who have now lost nine matches in a row.
