Jackson Hastings was not charged by the RFL’s Match Review Panel (MRP) during St Helens’ 40-10 win over the Bulls on Saturday.
Gardiner suffered serious injuries late in the match and was carried off the field on a stretcher before being taken to hospital.
Hastings wanted to check the 25-year-old’s well-being and laid a hand on Gardiner, a clear show of concern for the injured player.
Thankfully, Gardiner is now recovering at home from his injury.
In Super League, it is an offense for a player to contact or move an injured opponent, but speculation arose that the Saints player could be sanctioned after other players were cleared to contact injured players throughout the 2026 season.
Semi Valemei was notably handed a three-match ban after placing St Helens player Noah Stephens in a recovery position during the Saints’ 30-10 defeat by Castleford Tigers.
This means Hastings Magic are available for selection for the derby game against Wigan Warriors at the weekend.
St Helens forward Alex Walmsley, meanwhile, was handed five penalty points for dangerous conduct after being reported for a ‘chicken wing’ tackle in the first 40 minutes of the match.
He was later fined for the incident, while Shane Wright, who was foul-mouthed in the first half, was also fined after being handed five penalty points.
Hull KR confirmed on Monday that Tevita Pangai Jnr has been banned for six games after being handed a Grade F charge by the MRP for ‘gogging’ a Leeds Rhinos player during the team’s 34-8 defeat at Headingley on Friday.
This means he will miss the team’s derby match against Hull FC at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, as well as their return match at the MKM Stadium on July 23.
He will be eligible to return for the team’s home game against the Catalan Dragons on August 13.
The news comes as a blow for Rovers as the Tonga international has made a big impact for the club in his first three games.
He signed for the Robins until the end of the season in May and made 16 tackles during their clash with Leeds.
The club may appeal the decision, and may well do so, in the hope that the 30-year-old can return to cover for injured props Saoso Su and Sam Luckley.
Hull KR’s James Batchelor was fined by the MRP after being handed a Grade B charge for ‘head contact’ during the match.
Guillermo Aispuro-Bichette and Franck Maria will miss the Catalan Dragons’ derby match against Toulouse at the Stade Pierre-Fabre this weekend after both players were banned by the MRP.
During the Dragons’ two-point loss to Warrington, Aispuro-Bichet was placed on report after tackling Wolves youngster Aaron Lindop, with head coach Sam Burgess describing it as “very ugly”.
With Lindop expected to miss six weeks of action with the injury, Aispuro-Bichette was also given a Grade D charge and a two-match ban.
Maria was given a one-match ban for a grade B charge of head contact.
York Knights center Sam Wood was also charged with Grade D dangerous contact during the 20-14 defeat by Castleford Tigers.
He will now be suspended for the Knights’ game against Huddersfield Giants on the opening day of the Super League Magic weekend.
Sky Sports Every game in the Super League this season will be shown live, with two matches in each round exclusively live. The remaining five matches will be broadcast Sky Sports+
