Super League: Leigh Leopards 16-20 Hull KR

Hull KR have now won eight games in a row and move to fourth in the table, while Leigh are seventh after their narrow loss.

Alick-Wienke’s opening try for Leigh came as the hosts found a way through the Robins defence, leading him to race over with ease.

A hostile atmosphere from the home fans greeted KR but their first try came through a Leigh error as a pass sent the ball into touch to the wrong hand, handing their opponents another six set.

This encouraged the visitors, who had already gained considerable territory, and Hiku duly punched his way through the Lei defense.

They weren’t done there – Davies went over for his sixth try of the term as Leigh failed to pick him up on the wing, causing him to slide over in the corner.

Murgu, who has been out injured since Hull KR’s World Club Challenge win over the Brisbane Broncos in February, showed individual brilliance on his return to action as he made way with ease to further pad the visitors’ lead.

There was a rare blip in a well-controlled first half when Lewis was sent to the bin on the right at half-time for holding on to a tackle too long as Leigh attempted a last-ditch break to score before the hooter.

But there was another setback for Hull KR, as Murg appeared to have a recurrence of his pectoral injury against Brisbane.

Leigh’s comeback then gained momentum as Charnley and Hughes scored within minutes to reduce the deficit to four points with less than 10 minutes remaining.

And the hosts could have won it had it not been for the quick thinking of Joe Burgess, who made a match-saving tackle to deny Lachlan Lam after Edwin Ipepe sent him through.
