Wakefield Trinity ended Super League champions Hull KR’s 11-game home winning run.

Harvey Smith scored first for Trinity at Craven Park and Caius Fatili had a second-half double.

Rovers failed to score as Rhys Martin’s three penalty goals earned their only points.

The Robins lost further ground in the play-off race, losing on their own patch for the first time in over a year.

Trinity’s early pressure paid off when Smith found a gap and exploited it to cross from close range. But Tyson Smoothy hit the post and failed to kick what should have been a straightforward conversion.

Rovers’ nightmare opening 13 minutes was complicated when Peta Hiku was sent to the sin-bin for a late, high tackle.

They equalized through Martin’s quick-fire penalty goal, and Trinity’s Kai Rodwell also got in the bin.

Two more kicks ended a very scrappy half – Smoothie restored Wakefield’s lead, but Martin kicked his third just before the buzzer.

Wakefield added a second try when Fatili beat full-back Ryan Hampshire on the line to make his way over, leaving Smoothie with a simple conversion.

The Robins were unable to contain Fatili as he made his way just before the hour mark, as more sloppy defensive play was punished. Smooth, again, was an easy kick.

Mikey Lewis saw a Joe Burgess knock-on try denied with 15 minutes remaining and it looked to be a crucial moment in the game given Hull’s lack of energy.
