Captain Granit Xhaka will stay at Sunderland, Sky Sports News can exclusively confirm.
The Black Cats rejected an £8m bid from Chelsea for the 33-year-old midfielder last Sunday – but the Switzerland international, who played a key role in Sunderland’s impressive first season in the Premier League, will remain in the North East.
Sunderland have made it clear that Xhaka was never for sale but was initially attracted by the prospect of reuniting with Xabi Alonso, who enjoyed a successful spell under the new Chelsea boss at Bayer Leverkusen. Xhaka was open to exploring opportunities.
However, following talks with the club, Xhaka has reaffirmed his commitment to Sunderland and now wants to stay on Wireside.
