The veteran goalkeeper shined in the first game against Uruguay.. And what about the European champion?
Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais has caused terror in the “Green” ranks ahead of the upcoming match against Spain in the final of the 2026 World Cup.
The Saudi Arabian national team is preparing to meet its Spanish counterpart in the second round of the 2026 World Cup group stage next Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the American city of Atlanta.
Four days before the match, the Saudi Arabian national team announced the absence of goalkeeper Muhammad Al-Owais from the group training in which “Al-Akhdar” participated today, Wednesday, at the Q2 stadium in the American city of Austin.
Saudi Arabia’s official X website said Al Owais is content to continue his rehabilitation program under the supervision of medical staff without participating in group training.
Al-Owais was not the only absentee, as fellow goalkeeper Abdul-Rahman Al-Sanabi also missed group training due to hamstring pain.
Al Owais’ absence is causing concern among Saudi fans, especially after the performances he put in early Tuesday morning in a 1-1 draw with Uruguay at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium in the first round of the group stage.
The former goalkeeper of “Al Hilal” managed to stop 9 shots of the Uruguay teamThis is the most so far in the current World Cup campaign, including 4 shots from the penalty area.
It is noteworthy that all the teams included in the eighth group, which includes Saudi Arabia, Spain, Uruguay and Cape Verde, have one point each, after the matches of the first round ended in a draw.
