Is there a movie that is more eagerly anticipated this year? A Funny Story 5? For most people (with and without children), you can save Odysseys and Minotaurs and Hells, because the return of Woody, Buzz and friends is what cinema does. The series has so far made $3.3bn, and last year’s teaser trailer had 142m views in 24 hours – of which only 140m were my son struggling.

The new film, which will be released worldwide on 19 June, sees Jessie the Cowgirl (voiced by Joan Cusack) leading a gang of criminals in Bonnie’s eight-year-old room, with Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) as second-in-command, after leaving Woody (Tom Hanks) at the end of Toy Story 4 to help the abandoned owner.

But an intruder enters the bedroom: a tablet named Lilypad (Greta Lee), whose beautiful appearance hides an addictive and addictive machine. Troubled by their impending return, and Lilypad’s treatment of Bonnie, the toys rope in Woody to try to fit in again – and remove the tablet.

Other new arrivals in the fifth film include some bad tech, such as toilet teacher Smarty Pants (Conan O’Brien), a GPS hippo voiced by Craig Robinson, and a digital camera called Snappy, as well as tech-sceptic Dr Nutcase, a nutty-looking daredevil.

All the important names are returning for this fifth film, including composer Randy Newman, as well as Hamm, Rex, Slinky Dog, Potato Heads, Bo Peep, Forky, Dolly, Mr Pricklepants and Trixie – although Toy Story That Time Forgot paramor Reptillus Maximus seems not to be in the mix.
