The leader’s son deliberately complimented his former team.

Mohamed Al-Breik, a current NEOM and former Al-Hilal player, became the focus of widespread controversy during the clash between the two teams after he conceded an early penalty for Al-Za’em in a crucial match for the Saudi Roshan League title race.

The eighth minute of the match saw Mohamed Al-Brek’s tackle on France’s Theo Hernandez on the edge of the penalty area, sending the Al-Hilal left-back to the ground before the referee blew his whistle to award a direct penalty to the hosts.

The shot sparked a huge backlash from NEOM players as social media platforms, especially the X platform, erupted with comments from Al-Nasr fans who believed that Al-Break had given Al-Hilal a golden opportunity in an early promotion game that could be very influential in the crown race.

The sensitivity of the shot increased with the long history of the name Muhammad Al-Brake with Al-Hilal, as he is considered one of the most famous players to wear the shirt of Al Zaim in recent years, winning many domestic and continental championships with them before his subsequent departure to NEOM.

A section of Al-Nasr fans also saw the timing of the penalty and the nature of the interference as opening the door for doubt and commentary, especially as any slip-up or victory for Al-Hilal at this stage of the season could completely change the way they fight for the league title.

The Saudi Arabian league is experiencing one of its most exciting editions in recent years, with a heated battle for the top spot between Al Hilal and Al Nasr, making every refereeing tackle or individual error the subject of close scrutiny and widespread fan and media reaction.

There is a fierce rivalry between Al-Nasr and Al-Hilal this season as Al-Alami top the Roshen League table with 83 points, 5 ahead of Al-Zaim.
