Star of the Pharaohs. Egypt is the strongest in Africa… and we will go far in the World Cup


Mostafa Zico of the Egyptian national team has confirmed that the Pharaohs have the qualifications that enable them to take a strong part in the 2026 World Cup, stressing that the Egyptian national team is the strongest on the African continent and is capable of reaching the farthest point of the tournament.

Zico contributed to Egypt’s historic 3-1 win over New Zealand in the second round of the group stage, scoring once and assisting Mohamed Salah to lead the Pharaohs to their first ever World Cup victory.

“What we have achieved is normal. We are the Egyptian team, the strongest team in Africa. There are big names in the squad and they are all great players and I expect us to go very far in the tournament.”

The Pyramids player revealed his sights on joining the national team, saying: “I was completely away from the national team and Hossam Hasan called me when I was on the North Coast and suddenly I was in the World Cup. From the first minute, he trusted me and said that my joining was not an accident, so I don’t let him ruin everything in my power.”

He addedVia the official website of the Football Association: “Scoring goals is a blessing from God and a reward for effort and I am happy to score my first goal and assist Mohamed Salah.”

Zico stressed that all the players are doing their best to respect Egyptian football, explaining: “All the players are giving everything they have to make a distinctive and exceptional performance for Egypt at the World Cup.”

He concluded his statements by saying: “The happiness of the Egyptian masses is priceless.”

Egypt lead Group Seven with four points ahead of the finals and are very close to qualifying for the round of 32 after breaking a decades-long deadlock to claim their first World Cup victory.

The Egyptian team became the second Arab team to win the 2026 World Cup after Morocco.

The Atlas Lions beat Scotland 1-0 in the second round of Group C tournaments, while Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Iraq, Jordan, Algeria and Qatar are still looking for their first win in the current edition of the tournament.
