Spotify’s verified badge lets you know that this artist is not AI

Spotify is launching a new verification program to combat spam, fakeand AI. Some artists will now have a “Verified by Spotify” badge with a green symbol on their profile, indicating that the company has verified that a real person is behind the music and profile. At least in implementation, Spotify says that AI people or profiles that upload AI-generated music are not eligible for the verification program. It left the door open for future possibilities, however, saying, “the art concept is complex and rapidly evolving.”

Not everyone can be convinced, however. Spotify says there must be “constant listening activity and engagement over time,” meaning that if you can’t pass the royalty payment limit, Spotify won’t bother verifying your artist page. To verify transactions the company does not ask people to send photos of their driver’s licenses. Instead, it is focusing on events on and off the platform, including TV events, sales, and concert dates.

Spotify says “more than 99% of Spotify’s most searched artists” will be confirmed at launch. This includes a large number of independent systems, not just groups of capital letters, and the approval process will continue.

Spotify is also beta testing new artist features that are similar to food labels. It lists artist details such as major events, album releases, and tour events an easy-to-dig format.
