Speedboat accident in southern Vietnam kills 15 Indian tourists | Research Articles

The Indian embassy has said it will set up monitoring rooms to answer the families of the victims.

15 Indian tourists have died after their speedboat capsized near Phu Quoc island in southern Vietnam.

Officials confirmed the incident on Saturday and said the boat was carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members when it capsized. 21 people have been rescued and the injured have been hospitalized.

The cause of the accident is unknown.

Local media reported that the speedboat had left the popular island of Hon May Rut Ngoai on Saturday afternoon and was returning to An Thoi International Port when the accident happened – about 400 meters (a quarter of a kilometer) from the tourist center.

Images on social media appeared to show the moment rescuers pulled the victims out of the water and tried to revive them. Witnesses told the VN Express newspaper website that nearby boats rushed to the scene of the accident and began evacuating the passengers to the Vietnamese border, before the navy and coast guard arrived.

Most of the victims were trapped in the ship, making the rescue difficult, VN Express reported.

In a statement, the Indian Embassy in Hanoi said that rescue operations in Vietnam are continuing and that it has set up control rooms in the capital and in Ho Chi Minh City to coordinate with the families of the victims.

“Details of what happened are being known,” the ambassador said.

Last July, the tourist boat Wonder Sea capsized in Ha Long Bay during a typhoon. A total of 39 people were killed in the incident – one of Vietnam’s deadliest maritime accidents.

Phu Quoc, located in the Gulf of Thailand, is one of Vietnam’s most popular beach resorts. Hon May Rut Island is about 10km south of Phu Quoc. Both attract millions of visitors every year to their white sand beaches and clear green waters.
