Spain raise caution level for Yamal… and decide Boro’s position in the final

A special carpet… and a fear of taking risks

As the 2026 World Cup final approaches, the pressure on Spain’s national team is mounting in light of doubts surrounding two of La Roja’s stars ahead of next Sunday’s clash with Argentina.

After defeating France in the semi-finals, the medical staff of the Spanish national team paid great attention to Lamine Yamal and Pedro Boro.

According to the newspaper Sports “The Spanish national team’s technical and medical staff preferred to take a cautious approach with Lamine Yamal ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, given the great physicality the player exerted throughout the tournament, while stressing his readiness for the upcoming clash against Argentina.”

The Barcelona winger took part in a training session at the Red Bull Training Center in New York on Thursday with Pedro Porro out of the squad.

Yamal is having a remarkable tournament despite arriving at the World Cup after recovering from injury, as he has featured in all of Spain’s matches and has put in a lot of effort to help his country’s national team.

As fatigue builds up, the medical staff of the Spanish federation treat the player with extreme caution, avoiding exposing him to any risk.

Yamal participated early in practice with his teammates before leaving during the rondo possession drills to work on the special mat, where he did stretching exercises and an individual program, focusing on Sunday’s finals in New Jersey.

The report confirms that the player will be fully fit for the final match against Argentina in which Spain are looking to win their second World Cup title, stating that Yamal is very excited and has a strong desire to win the World Cup.

Pedro Porro’s condition is also not a concern, as he is suffering from a hamstring strain, but he can participate in the final.

The report states that the same caution applies to Boro, who was named man of the match for the semi-final against France, as the coaching staff prefer not to take any chances with a player who stands out in performance.

Coach Luis de la Fuente spoke quietly with Yamal and Pedro Porro before turning his attention to the remaining 24 players in training.

Training witnessed a program dedicated to regaining fitness, as players who did not feature against France underwent more intensive training, while key players were content with light exercises.
