Source: Packers are signing veteran Tyrod Taylor as potential new QB2

More than a week has passed since and without the NFL Draft Packers By adding a quarterback, Green Bay is making a veteran signing Tyrod TaylorA source told NFL Network.

A source told NFL Network the Packers are releasing Reeder after signing Taylor.

“I’m excited about the competition in that room and we’ll see if we add to it,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said after the draft and before signing Taylor. “But it’s a very important thing for us. Jordan, the last two years, missed some time, and we’ve got to have somebody come in there and play at a high level to help us win those games. So, we’ll expect whoever gets called up and when you lose someone like Malik, that’s something you have to replace, and we’ll try to do that.”

Taylor has played in 100 games and started 62 of his 15 NFL seasons, most recently New York Jets. He started four games last season for the Jets. Much of his startup experience came with it Buffalo Billwith whom he started 43 games from 2015-17.

Taylor missed training camp with the Jets last summer because of arthroscopic knee surgery — a problem that flared up midway through the season. On November 17, he was replaced as the starter without effect Justin FieldsBut he made only three starts from the point. He left the game with a groin injury in the first start of the third series. Taylor was hailed by his teammates as a consummate professional, refusing to make waves amid the Jets’ quarterback turmoil.
