Solheim Cup – Captain’s column by Anna Nordqvist: Team Europe’s scouting mission and qualifying run at Barnards Golf | golf news

I’m just leaving the Netherlands and Barnards Golf, where we’ve had team practice for the past two days.

With two qualifying tournaments to go and a lot still on the line, I brought 11 girls to the Solheim Cup venue this week to play the course and hang out together.

I’m excited to see a lot of hard work and planning come to fruition and now that the Solheim Cup is only two months away, you can tell everyone is getting a little more serious about it – both the excitement and the anticipation are building.

In the Netherlands I was joined by my co-captain Ann van Dam and team assistant Becky Brewerton. It definitely takes a village to make this happen and I’m very grateful to everyone for giving their help and support to Team Europe.

I appreciate the energy and enthusiasm of everyone who came here, especially coming straight after playing our fourth major of the year last week, the Amundi Evian Championship!

As a European, we all embrace this time of year to “finally” come home for a European extended tournament and be able to go home between tournaments.

We had a lot of European success at Evian and I look forward to following the girls to the final two qualifying events, the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open and the AIG Women’s Open.

The team will be finalized with my four captain picks on Monday 3 August at Sky Sports Studios in London. I have a lot of difficult phone calls ahead!

I will give both good news to players not making the team this year and good news to players who make it. We are now one step closer to the event and it is very exciting.

As Team Europe stands and explains the qualification

The European team consists of the top two players in the European Solheim Cup team point standings, the top six players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking and four captain picks.

The European Solheim Cup Team Points Standings are based on points earned in Ladies’ European Tour sanctioned events, with Charlie Hull and Chiara Tamburlini currently occupying those spots.

The next six available players by their world rankings are Lottie Wade (world no. 5), Maja Starc (world no. 24), Celine Boutier (world no. 31), Carlotta Siganda (world no. 43), Lynn Grant (world no. 45) and Esther Henselit (world no. 51).

Next week’s ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open and AIG Women’s Open are the only qualifying events left to earn points, with Helen Brim (132 points) and Agathe Lyson (111 points) the next two in the European Solheim Cup team standings.

With Nanna Koertz Madsen (No. 61) and Leona Maguire (No. 82) the next two players in the world rankings, Nordqvist will confirm her team next month. Team USA will name their lineup after the CPKC Women’s Open on August 23.
