Solheim Cup – Anna Nordqvist’s captain column: Europe’s qualifying battle to prepare to face Team USA Golf News

We are less than 100 days away from the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands and only two months away from team selection – it’s crazy!

It’s going to be here before we know it, but it’s great to see all the work we’re starting to put together behind the scenes. I am happy that everyone is so excited and involved in the journey and everything is going.

I was able to catch up with Suzanne Pettersen at the US Women’s Open this past week and run some thoughts and ideas through her based on her knowledge as European captain in 2023 and 2024.

My co-captain Anne Van Dam lives in Los Angeles and came to follow some of the girls playing at Riviera Country Club, so it’s nice to pick each other’s brains!

Anne and I will be taking about 12 players to Bernardus Golf (this year’s Solheim Cup venue) for team practice in mid-July, so we will finalize details for that in the coming weeks.

I always believe that the ranking will take care of the team selection, so I try to encourage and support all the players who are currently trying their best to make the team.

Helen Briem moved to within one point of Chiara Tamburlini for one of the automatic qualifying spots on the European Solheim Cup points table with a stunning win at the Jabra Ladies Open de France two weeks ago on the Ladies European Tour, so the two will have a great battle for that spot down the stretch.

Celine Boutier just won the ShopRite LPGA on the LPGA Tour, showing great form, then we saw Maja Stark and Charlie Hull have a great week at the US Women’s Open!

This week the LPGA Tour is playing a team event with the Dow Championship in Michigan, and I’m excited to see so many European girls teaming up together.

Maja is partnered with her good friend Lynn Grant, Julia Lopez Ramirez with Mimi Rhodes, Pauline Roussin-Bouchard with Manon de Roy, Hélène Nastasia with Nadaud and Celine Boutier with Nanna Koertz Madsen, to name a few.

I look forward to continuing the journey with three more majors – the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the Evian Championship and the AIG Women’s Open – to finish off the qualifying period.

Then, we can fully prepare and get everyone on the same page by September!
