In response to Mohamed Salah’s latest comments, Liverpool manager Arne Slott has confirmed that he does not fear a drop in the team’s level following the departure of the Egyptian star and other elements of the management at the end of the current season.
Salah is concerned about the future of the Reds
Salah, who will leave Anfield this summer along with Andrew Robertson and others, has expressed his concerns about the club’s future in several recent interviews, warning that “standards will inevitably drop” with the loss of key players who have contributed to the team’s success in recent years.
Slot: “I am fully convinced of the team’s capabilities”
But Slott flatly dismissed these concerns at a press conference, saying: “I’m not afraid that next season the standards will be lower than this season, or the season before, or the season before that. No, I’m not worried. Not at all.”
The Dutch coach confidently added. “I’m absolutely confident that we have enough players for next season, and on top of that, the players we’re going to sign to set the standard where they need to be.”
String message
In a veiled reference that could be interpreted as an indirect criticism of Salah, Slott said: “Then the standards are not only related to what happens in the gym, but also to what happens on the field. OK. Do you understand me? Without me saying anything.”
The end of an era and the beginning of another
The announcements come as Liverpool prepare for a comprehensive rebuild following the departure of Salah, regarded as one of the greatest players in the club’s recent history, along with Robertson and possibly other elements of the management.
Despite Salah’s great success since joining in 2017, including the Champions League and Premier League titles, Slott appears confident in his ability to build a competitive squad without relying on the Egyptian star.
Big challenge for Slott
The Dutch coach faces a huge challenge to prove the truth of his claims, especially with the departure of players who were the backbone of the team for many years. Next season will be a real test of Liverpool’s competitiveness in the absence of the team’s legends.
