The former frontman and manager wanted to keep the news private but suddenly confirmed the investigation after initially sharing the news in an “anonymous social media post”.

“I am currently undergoing cancer treatment,” Dallish, 75, wrote on social media. “The treatment is going well, according to the use of my mobile phone.

“Ideally this would have been kept private because that’s how it should be, but my useless technological skills forced my hand.

“Obviously I do not wish to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if my privacy and that of my family would be respected.

“As always, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have provided such wonderful care and attention not only to me but to so many others. They are a credit to themselves.”

Dallish made 515 appearances for Celtic between 1969 and 1977, scoring 167 goals in 320 games. Liverpool.

The veteran striker scored 30 goals in 102 appearances for Scotland.
