Italy’s Jannik Sinner defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-7 (7-9) 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 6-4 to claim his fifth Grand Slam.

Jannik Sinner was at his best as he successfully defended his Wimbledon title with a four-set victory over French Open champion Alexander Zverev in the final.
The world champion recovered from losing the first set in a largely serve-driven match, eventually wearing Zverev down to secure a 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/2), 6-3, 6-4 victory on Sunday.

Zverev had never reached the quarter-finals in nine previous trips to Wimbledon, but he was a reborn man in London after breaking his Grand Slam duck in Paris.
They managed to capture the Sinner’s first streak in seven meetings, but couldn’t go on a 10-game losing streak against a seemingly irreplaceable opponent.
Zverev, who is aiming to become the first German to win the title since Michael Stich in 1991, moved above Alcaraz to second in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings on Monday.
Zverev saved the only break of a tight first set dominated by serve as it went down the break.
The first 15 points of the breaker went on serve, with both men saving points, before Zverev won with a forehand winner.
There was no room for a break in the second set as the players once again worked their way to 6-6, but this time Sinner raised a break to take the match.
Zverev finally made his first break point in the seventh game of the third set, but he went down when Sinner ate a winner.
He grabbed his knee and Sinner crossed the net to check on his injured opponent as the crowd gasped, but the German was helped by the Italian.
Sinner made a move in the next game as Zverev’s serve was broken.
Zverev flung his racquet angrily on the court after a long forehand on the break that saw Sinner lying on the court at the start of the meeting.
The top seed served unfairly, sealing a two-set lead with an ace.
Zverev gamely tried to extend the match, but his race was short-lived when Sinner broke for a 4-3 lead in the fourth set.
He wrapped up the title despite playing one of the best final matches of the tournament, collapsing on the pitch in celebration after hitting the winner in his first game.
