Should Scotland have conceded two penalties and played with 10 men?

It was a night that saw the Scots beat Haiti 1-0 in their opener after Ismael Saibari put Morocco ahead after 70 seconds.

However, they gradually grew into the contest and were angered by missing two second-half penalties after John McGinn and Scott McTominay went down.

Referee Tantashev let too much pass in the game and there was clear frustration with the performance of the Scottish players and coaches.

“I think it’s a penalty,” Unkel said of the McTominay incident on ITV.

“The referee is known to tolerate high levels of physical contact but you don’t need much to award a penalty.

“It’s a simple offense, there’s a contact in the knee area and there’s another angle that suggests there might be a step on the left boot.”

However, Clarke felt the earlier challenge on McGinn was the more serious decision and also felt Morocco defender Issa Diop was lucky to escape with only a yellow card when he brought down Che Adams.

“There were one or two decisions I wasn’t too sure about,” Clark said.

“I thought John McGinn’s one was a penalty (one from Scott McTominay). The other day someone might give that away.”

“So is a yellow card for a defender when Che Adams is out for a goal. On another day this could be a red.”
