Belgian goalkeeper Shaun Lammens continued to cement his status as one of the Premier League’s biggest stars of the season after being named the 2025-26 Premier League Player of the Year, capping his first season at Manchester United with a new individual achievement that reflects the extent of the impact he has had since arriving at the club last summer.
According to the English press, Lammens won the award after his excellent performances for Manchester United, as the 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper quickly established himself as a front-runner at the club after signing for just €21 million in what was considered one of the best signings of the season.
Lammens proved his technical worth from the opening weeks of the competition, using his great composure and remarkable maturity on the pitch to become one of the most prominent factors in the team’s defensive stability after keeping eight clean sheets in the English Premier League and directly contributing to Manchester United’s improved results during the season.
The award takes on special significance as it is given to a player who can make a quick and impactful mark in one of the world’s most competitive leagues, something that has clearly been achieved with the Belgian goalkeeper, who managed to end a years-long dispute over the goalkeeper’s position in the team, given the criticism leveled at Cameroonian Andre Onana last season.
Laminz beat a number of notable names in the race for the award, most notably Frenchman Ryan Chergui, who also stood out for Manchester City in his first season, but it was not enough to take the award away from the Belgian goalkeeper, who continued to earn plaudits thanks to his consistent performances and big impact since arriving at Old Trafford.
