Seinfeld star Jason Alexander has apologized to actress Courtney Stodden for the decade-old drama in which she smeared a cellphone on her chest when she was 17, saying, “It was inappropriate and I regret it”.
Stodden made international headlines in 2011 when she married her ex-husband, Doug Hutchison, The Green Mile, when she was 16 and he was 51. Despite her young age, the couple was legal because her parents gave their consent. Stodden and Hutchison divorced in 2020.
Over the years, Stodden, now 31, has been a vocal critic of child marriage in the US, which it remains legal in 33 states with parental consent or legal guidance. Child marriage was legal in every US state until 2018.
On Monday, Stodden posted a quote about the 2012 cartoon Funny or Diepublished when she was 17. In the clip she plays herself and wears a red bikini while Alexander, playing a daytime television doctor, shakes the phone at her breasts while saying that she has “all the bars” in her chest but that she “can’t find anything” in her head. After saying a few sweet words, Alexander’s character invites Stodden to return to his show when he turns 18.
Alexander, who played George Costanza in Seinfeld, is one of the writers who became famous as a photographer and was 52 years old when he was photographed.
“Looking back now, I don’t see the joke,” Stodden wrote. “I see a 17-year-old girl whose body has become a joke for an adult. Legally, I could not have made those decisions on my own. That’s the point. I can’t change what happened to me, but I can ask myself: how did many adults look at a child and decide that this is acceptable?”

Alexander apologized on Wednesday, told the Hollywood Reporter: “When I look back on the comedy that Ms Stodden and I were involved in in 2012, I agree that it was inappropriate and I regret it. But most importantly, I am very sorry for any trouble or trouble it caused Ms Stodden. I apologize from the bottom of my heart.”
