The Supreme Court yesterday decided not to intervene in a challenge to the Texas grocery store law, allowing the state to enact age-verification laws while the case continues.
A federal judge issued an order striking down the Texas App Store Accountability Act in December 2025, find that it may violate the First Amendment. US District Judge Robert Pitman’s ruling prevented Texas from implementing the law when it was set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
But the US Supreme Court in the Fifth Circuit became the law on June 4, deciding that “there are no compelling reasons to call for enforcement of the entire Act.” A lobby group representing Big Tech companies and a student advocacy group then asked the Supreme Court to reinstate the decision.
