Scott McTominay: Scotland midfielder flies to Boston away from World Cup teammates after stomach upset

Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay traveled to Boston separately from the rest of his teammates after missing Thursday’s training session with a stomach upset.

The Napoli player, who has been a leading man for the Scots in recent campaigns, traveled with a doctor in what is believed to be a precautionary measure.

Steve Clarke’s side get their first World Cup in 28 years when they face Haiti at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough on Saturday evening (Sunday 02:00 BST).

They will face Morocco and Brazil in the group stage.

McTominay, who has 15 goals across 70 caps, has found the net convincingly for Scotland. 4-0 win over Bolivia Saturday

Scotland fans, who are flooding into Boston in large numbers, will be anxious for an update from Clarke who will address the media on Friday.

Speaking at Thursday’s media conference, fellow midfielder Kenny McLean said of the situation: “Hopefully it doesn’t spill over. Fingers crossed Scott will be fine. I’m sure he will.

“I don’t need to say much about him, everyone knows how great he is.

“It’s a team effort and always will be, but when you have special, special players you want them to be available. I’m sure he will be.”
