Teranga Lions have been disappointing
The Secretary General of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Seydou Sou, has revealed disturbing details about the sudden dismissal of the chef of the mission during the participation of the “Tiranga Lions” in the 2026 World Cup, stressing that the decision was taken as a result of actions considered “sexual harassment”.
In press statements reported by the Moroccan website Al-Botola, Sou expressed his displeasure with the media coverage of the incident, saying:
The Senegalese official explained that the federation chose not to publicly release the full details, noting that “there were very specific acts similar to sexual harassment that have already occurred,” wondering:
Sow pointed out the cultural differences between Senegalese and Western society, explaining: “We have a Senegalese practice that is completely different from Western culture. We do not have the same civilizations. We can joke with a woman and pat her on the back, thinking that this is outside of extended kinship, but in the United States, it’s completely different.”
The secretary-general confirmed that the decision to immediately deport was made after consultation with the federation’s president, who was in Mexico for FIFA-related reasons, in addition to coordination with Senegalese government officials.
Sou stressed that “this precautionary measure was necessary to maintain calm and stability in the camp, as well as to protect the image of our country in the international arena”, stressing that the quick intervention prevented the crisis from escalating and turning into an international scandal that could damage the reputation of the Senegalese national team.
It is the first time a Senegalese federation official has revealed the true cause of the controversial incident during the World Cup, with the federation at the time contenting itself with a brief statement of “the return of a member of the administrative staff for organizational reasons”.
