Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez is fully ready to participate in Argentina’s opening match against Algeria in the 2026 World Cup.
Scaloni said at the press conference before the match. “He had an ankle problem. We took care of him and he is fine now. His recovery efforts have paid off and he is ready to compete tomorrow.”
and:Alvarez was sidelined for more than a month with an ankle injuryHis last game was the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Arsenal on 5 May, where he played after receiving a painkiller injection.
Most observers expected him to be rested in the opening game against Algeria, but his full recovery made him a strong option to start.
Alvarez is attracting interest from major European clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, while Atletico Madrid insist they are refusing to sell him.
According to the Spanish “Mundo Deportivo”, Giuliano Simeone seems to be the only player of “Atletico” Madrid who has guaranteed his place in the starting line-up of the Algerian national team. Thiago Almada, who regularly participates in the national team of Argentina, has a great chance to play in the starting team.
As for the participation of Nahuel Molina and Julián Alvarez, it will depend on their fitness and if they are ready, they will be among the confirmed key players in Scaloni’s team.
Nico Gonzalez could start at left back if Tagliafico doesn’t recover, although Facundo Medina is expected to play that position.
Meanwhile, Juan Musso is awaiting the status of Emiliano ‘Depo’ Martinez after suffering a broken finger ahead of the Europa League final, with the Aston Villa goalkeeper expected to start the match.
