Sarcastic criticism.

The former Dutch star described the position of “Emirates” as “boring”.

Former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Galatasaray star Wesley Sneijder has slammed Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid as “boring”, while he wants Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, the other semi-finalists, to qualify for the final.

Arsenal booked a valuable place in the Champions League final for the second time in their history after beating Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, Tuesday night, to qualify 2-1 on aggregate.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich and its guest PSG will meet in the second leg of the other semi-final at the Allianz Arena this Wednesday evening, noting that the French team won the first leg at home with a score of 5-4.

Schneider said through the Dutch network Ziggo Sport that the Arsenal-Atletico Madrid match was far from the expected level, adding: “At this level, everyone expects a top-class football show, but we were a long way from that.”

He continued sarcastically. “35 minutes into the game I thought about contacting the European Union to call off the game so that the players could leave the pitch and announce that the final would be between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

The vice-champion of the 2010 World Cup expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the level of the match, considering that it did not qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League. He said: “Honestly, it was a very boring match. It was nothing like the semi-final. I lacked intensity, creativity and quality up front.”

Not only that, but he doubted the two teams’ ability to compete with the big boys in the final, adding: “It’s hard to imagine them upsetting PSG or Bayern Munich.” Based on what we’ve seen, it’s going to be an easy match for either of them.”

The former Holland star also criticized the refereeing decisions, implying that Arsenal benefited from them, saying: “They should be very grateful. There was clear contact with Giuliano Simeone that deserved a penalty, as well as a tackle on Antoine Griezmann that didn’t count. For me, these were clear and indisputable decisions.”
