Sam Walters: Wigan Warriors forward banned for seven matches


Sam Walters has received a seven-match ban for a red card at Wigan Warriors. Challenge Cup Final win Hull over Kingston Rovers.

The Cherries and Whites forward became the first man since 1993 to be dismissed in the showpiece after his lift tackle on Robins hooker Bill Leyland was deemed dangerous.

Walters’ suspension comes less than two months into his stay Banned for three matches and 18 penalty points for a headbutting offense during Wigan’s quarter-final win over Wakefield Trinity.

Following that ban the number of penalty points was reduced to 4.5 but the Rugby Football League’s match review panel imposed a 35-point penalty for Leyland’s dangerous tackle and also fined Walter an unspecified amount.

Warriors half-back Harry Smith also received a one-match ban for a head-butt with Robins winger Tom Davies.
