Argentina captain Lionel Messi broke his silence with an emotional message to his country’s fans following their 2026 World Cup final defeat to Spain in a goalless defeat that ended Tango’s dream of retaining the world title, but it did not end the pride the Argentina captain felt in his country’s championship.
Messi published a message on his official page “Instagram:“, in which he expressed his deep sadness after losing the final, stressing that the bitterness of the defeat will remain for a long time, but at the same time stressed that what the Argentine team has achieved is worthy of appreciation and pride.
“The pain is great and it will take time to heal this wound,” wrote Messi. “But I also keep all the beautiful things, the matches in which we turned the score after giving up our strength, moments that will stay in our memories forever, and the support of an entire country, which, together with the hard work and great efforts of this team, brought us back to the ranks of the world’s elite.”
The captain of the Argentine national team added. “It’s hard to realize now the extent of what we’ve achieved, but this team has reached two consecutive World Cup finals, which is a source of pride. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for every message and word of support. We have once again succeeded in uniting as one country, standing together and sharing our great pride.”
Messi concluded his message by congratulating the Spanish team, saying: “I would also like to congratulate Spain on winning the tournament.”
