Sad doubt.. Roy Keane about the star of England. Why did he come to the World Cup?

What he wanted, Beckham and Rooney couldn’t do

Former Manchester United star Roy Keane has cast doubt on England winger Bukayo Saka’s fitness for the 2026 World Cup, saying the player does not appear to be at his optimum level.

Speaking ahead of the Round of 32 clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ken Fay said: Stay tuned to the Football Podcast!“He doesn’t look sharp. Is he confident physically? If he has all these issues, and if we look at the bigger picture, why is he here?”

He continued. “He needs to rest. When you know in your mind that you’re not at your best, you stop going up against defenders and play like yourself.”

Gary Neville also expressed a similar opinion about Saka, saying: “He doesn’t look good at all. It’s worrying when you say your starting right winger has to rest and come on.”

“It is a great concern for me that he is in this situation. Wayne Rooney came into the tournament and wasn’t at his best, and David Beckham came into the tournament and wasn’t at his best. You can’t recover your fitness in the World Cup, this is not pre-season training.”

He added: “I really think he’s going to be a backup player and should come off the bench.”

Notably, Saka has only started one match for England at the 2026 World Cup, but he provided an assist in the recent 2-0 win over Panama.
