Jones said Barnard, from the village of Ogmore Vale in Bridgend County, held the offender until police arrived “and then returned the handbag to the injured grandfather”.

“Then he ran over to our film panel, sat down, kept as calm as possible (and) regaled the audience with stories on the set,” said Jones, who is the son of pop icon David Bowie.

Annecy Festival The incident happened an hour before the panel event, not at the festival site, but in the city center.

Annecy Municipal Police have been contacted for comment.

Rogue Trooper is the latest project by Jones, whose previous work includes Source Code and Warcraft.

Barnard will play the title role in the new film, which premiered at the festival and will be released later this year.

The play, written and directed by Jones, stars Jack Louden of Slow Horses, Inside No 9’s Reece Shearsmith, comedian Diane Morgan, Game of Thrones’ Sean Bean and Sex Education star Asa Butterfield.
