A number of papers focus on the future of Sir Keir Starmer, who say “exasperated backbenchers” are plotting a “putsch” after the 2006 move against then-Chancellor Gordon Brown. The MPs plan to send an open letter to Sir Keir asking for a timetable after this week’s local elections. He reported that several cabinet ministers were aware of the plot. Starmer has said in recent weeks that he wants to fight in the next election.
