How realistic is what Riquelme said?
Real Madrid’s presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has sprung an election surprise two days before the election, announcing that his future sporting director Raul Gonzalez will hold talks with German coach Jurgen Klopp to lead the Real Madrid team if he wins the election.
Riquelme issued an official statement announcing that he had chosen Klopp to coach the team despite the fact that no final agreement had been reached with him, noting that the German coach had not objected to the announcement, according to sources close to the campaign.
The statement, which was worded with extreme precision, explained that Raul Gonzalez, who will take over as sporting director if Riquelme wins, will contact Klopp personally to inform him of the sporting project and the club’s desire to lead the team into a new era, stressing that the German coach may be open to negotiations despite his public statements not to return to training.
Klopp’s selection came at the last minute after efforts by Riquelme’s sports team to defend his candidacy, led by Raul and aided by Hierro, Casillas and Del Bosque, who understood the German coach to be ideal for building a short-term success program with the potential for long-term stability.
“A club the size of Real Madrid has to make its sporting decisions through a person responsible for it, and since the arrival of our sporting director Raul González Blanco, this responsibility has been entrusted to him.”
The presidential candidate has described Klopp as “one of the best managers of our time”, praising his achievements at Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, as well as his ability to restore the competitive spirit, professionalism, merit and team unity that characterized the greatest periods in Real’s history.
“We know that Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated that he has no intention of returning to training any time soon and that he has rejected many offers. That’s why we think the challenge at Real Madrid is different. There are great clubs, but there is only one Real Madrid.
Riquelme emphasized that this decision is in line with the sentiments of the thousands of members and fans he has met over the past two weeks, stressing that the coming years will be crucial for the future of the royal institution.
“As the next president of Real Madrid, my commitment is clear. surround myself with the best talent, listen to those with experience and always make decisions only in the best interests of the club and its members,” expressing his willingness to restore the ambition of winning, the culture of hard work and the belief that there is no impossible challenge before the royal crest.
