Since Sony announced that it is plans to stop making PlayStation discs in 2028many people have been understandably concerned about how to maintain ownership and long-term access to games in a world without discs. But ceasing production of PlayStation discs also means ending the market for cheap PlayStation CDs, which are often available for cheap downloads on the computer.
How much is the discount for this disc? To find out, Ars analyzed how the prices of the 19 best-selling PlayStation games differ between digital downloads and physical discs (new and used). We found that, although used discs have been the cheapest option for many games for years, the frequent and frequent discounts offered on the PlayStation Store often reduce the cheapest options for games. This may continue even in the future without PlayStation discs.
